April 13-15, 2019 – Pelathe District Survival Camporee Campout, Camp Bromelsick
Plane Crashes and you have to build a shelter from the parts, signal search airplanes for help, treat survivors and build stretchers to move them. Atomic bomb blast and blinds your patrol except your patrol leader (who was sleeping as usual). Now you have to put a tent blindolded with him giving you directions but not using his hands. Fire starting, log pulling, etc.
December 1, 2018 – Wilderness Survival Campout, Camp Bromelsick
Get your survival mode in gear and come on out to complete Wilderness Survival Merit Badge. We will build shelters out of cedar trees (invasive species), cook over an open fire with no pots and pans, and sleep in our survival shelters. Awesomeness and very Scouty.
November 16-18, 2018 – World War I Museum/Camp Naish Campout
Camping at Camp Naish with a daytrip on Saturday to the Liberty Memorial World War I Museum in Kansas City. We will be working on rank advancement on the campout and Citizenship in the Nation Merit Badge (Eagle Required) requirement 2A (Visiting a National Landmark).
October 26-28, 2018 – Battle of Black Jack Reenactment
Have you ever wanted to do a civil war like reenactment? If so then the Battle of Black Jack Reenactment is for you! We will reenact the pre civil war battle (The Battle of Black Jack) with actual civil war reenactors and historians.
October 20, 2018 Fall Rank Advancement Day, Camp Bromelsick, KS
If you are Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, or First Class rank, this will be a great time to take the next step in advancement! There will be scouters, troop guides, etc., to work with and assist you in your goals. Bring your book and be prepared to work!
When: October 20th, 2018, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM (or leave earlier if you need to)
Where: Meet at Bromelsick Scout Camp, 682 North 1400 Road, Lecompton, KS 66047 (upper entrance)
Cost: No cost for this event but you must bring a sack lunch and snacks along with a water bottle. Dress in layers for the weather so you can stay warm/cool as the day progresses.

June 2018 – U.S.S. Razorback Campout, North Little Rock, Arkansas
A night aboard the historic submarine USS Razorback includes a personalized guided tour of the submarine as well as other activities. Groups will see parts of the submarine normally closed to the public and they will sleep in refurbished bunks in the tight crew’s quarters, experiencing the close quarters, sights, sounds, smells and lack of privacy endured by the sailors who once lived aboard the submarine. Evening activities can include educational programs or just watching a movie aboard the submarine, like the crew did.
Razorback conducted five combat patrols during World War II, sinking Japanese vessels, capturing Japanese POWs and rescuing American pilots who had been shot down. At the end of WWII, she was one of only 12 submarines selected to be present in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrender was signed.

Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin, or Ravenclaw…who will win this year. The fourth annual Quidditch Tournament, coupled with Blacksmithing. Sorting hat ceremony Friday night, practice and brackets Saturday. Blacksmithing all day Saturday.

Fishing Merit Badge – catch, clean, and cook, Ham Radio Fox-Hunt – build your own antenna and radio receiver then find the hidden transmitter, Corn-hole Tourney – brackets and competition the “hole” weekend, and Rank advancement for those working up to First Class!

Singing Coyote Campsite is home base, Combat Air Museum one day, Trail to First Class focus for younger Scouts, Older Scouts run the requirements, OA Tap out – invite family members for that campfire.

3 movies, camp in, snacks and hanging out with friends. Sharknado # 25 (or whatever the latest one is) is on the ticket.
December 10-12, 2017, Cosmosphere Campout, Hutchinson, KS
Getting ready to have a BLAST at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson! Pun intended! We will campout the first night and then in the Cosmosphere the next night. We will work on Engineering and Robotics Merit Badges. We arrive at the Cosmophere at 12:30 on Saturday and take the Cosmosphere tour, work on the badges, attend a lab presentation, watch a movie, have breakfast and leave at 11am on Sunday. Cost $75 per Scout, $35 per adult.
Engineering MB: Find out what it’s like to be an engineer. Construct and operate robots, take apart hair dryers, and make your own electric motor.
Robotics MB: Explore the hi-tech world of robotics. Construct and operate robots. Design sensor platforms and program a robot to complete a task.
November 8-10, 2017. Camp Naish in Winter Campout, Bonnersprings, KS
We will be camping, cooking, and hiking at Camp Naish. The Philmont Trek for 2018 will be getting in a shakedown hike, cooking merit badge will get some trail and camp cooking done, Trail to First class folks will get a lot of things done, and we will be working on Signs, Signals, and Codes Merit Badge for anyone interested.

Join us for the Annual Family Campout. Scouts got to Camp Peterson at Camp Bromelsick Friday night, Families arrive after 11am on Saturday. Hang out, fish, canoe, play disc golf, whatever tickles your fancy. In the evening is a hot dog/chili dog meal provided by the Troop and then an evening campfire with smores and skits from the patrols.
May 12-14, 2017 – Quidditch/Blacksmithing Campout – Camp Bromelsick, Lawrence KS
Join us for the annual Quidditch/Blacksmithing Campout at Camp Bromelsick. The sorting hat is getting dusted off for Friday night’s campfire and the Quidditch training begins Saturday morning. Tournament starts after lunch. While you are not playing Quidditch the forge will be set up for Blacksmithing. 1st years will learn basic metallurgy and hammer out their very own flint and steel strikers and neckerchief slides. Older Scouts – you are veterans, make what you want!
April 21-23, 2017 – Omaha Zoo Jungle Dome Campout – Bromelsick -> Omaha, NE
Camping at Burgess Scout Cabin night 1, then off to Omaha Zoo to camp in the Jungle Dome. Dinner at King Kong Burger Saturday (home of the “2 pound hamburger”. Agenda sent by email.
March 18-20, 2017 – Spring Break Campout – Camp Bromelsick, Lawrence, KS
Cooking and Camping Merit Badge requirements, Trail to First Class, and fun field games.
March 17-24, 2917 – Seabase Bahamas Trek, Marsh Harbour, Bahamas
15 Scouts and 5 Scouters fly out on March 17 to begin their trek in the Bahamas. Sea turtles, reef fish, sharks, rays, manatees, sand, sun, and islands. We will be sailing on a catamaran out of Marsh Harbour. Scouts are in charge of navigation, radio communications, cooking, and ship maintenance. Leaders are in charge of catching fishing and catching some rays (sunshine not the fish).
March 4-5, 2017 New Scouts (First Years) Camp In – Burgess Scout Cabin, Lawrence, KS
All new Scouts to Troop 55 will have their Camp-In at the Burgess Scout Cabin. An email has been sent with permission slip, agenda, and equipment check list to each Scout’s family. We will meet our new Troop Guides, choose patrols, make patrol flags and yells, work on the Scout Badge, choose our first patrol meal together and make a shopping list, hike to Hy Vee to buy dinner items, learn to use the Coleman Stoves and cook a meal as a patrol, and have a great time!
February 3-5, 2017 – Pelathe District Klondike Derby, F.O.P. Property, Lone Star, KS
This year’s Klondike Derby will be held at the F.O.P. property near Lone Star Lake. Events include: rifle shooting, fire building, flag pole building, first aid, snow shoe races, and more. Every Scout brings a can of soup to donate for lunch. Dinner is by patrol. Sled building start at the Jan. 9th meeting. Pray for snow!
January 6-8, 2017 – IBEX Campout, Hidden Valley Camp Ground, Lawrence KS & IBEX Climbing Facility, Blue Springs, MO.
January 6-7 Camping at Hidden Valley Camp until 4pm then head to Blue Springs IBEX. We will be working on Camping and Cooking Merit Badge requirements at Hidden Valley as well as any first year hiking requirements. Saturday evening we will go to IBEX, eat dinner on the way (Fazolis?), then check in at 6pm at IBEX and climb until midnight. We will camp Saturday night in the IBEX facility. $35 per person. Mr. Hafer is the Honcho.

Summer camp in the winter! We will get to experience Bartle with fall foliage and beautiful views. Camping, cooking, and hiking the Osage Trail out to Cedar Bluffs is the agenda. This is going to be awesome.
October 1-2, 2016 – Canoe the Kaw, Perry KS
Scouts will canoe down the Delaware River to the Kansas River (Kaw), camp and cook on an island, finish Canoeing Merit Badge, and paddle to LeCompton Rising Sun Landing the next day. Dates changeable with river levels and weather.

June 10-13, 2016 Watkins Woolen Mill Campout – Watkins Mill State Park in Missouri
Scouts will get to visit an 1850’s woolen mill and homestead in that are all still intact from the mid-1800’s. We will learn about the industrial revolution and visit the museum. Prior to the campout, the Kaw Valley Textile Guild will be coming to the cabin and demonstrate pre-industrial revolution spinning and weaving to help us complete Textiles Merit Badge. Camping will be at the group campground at Watkins Mill State Park.

Meeting time changed 6-8:30 (1 hour earlier)
The Kaw Valley Weavers Guild will be leading hands on demonstrations with spinning and weaving machines in the Burgess Scout Cabin. Scouts will be going through stations of cleaning and carding raw wool, dyeing wool with kool aid, drop spinning wool and using a spinning machine, as well as weaving on a loom. This will be part of Textile Merit Badge (first offered to Boy Scouts in 1927 – the year before your Troop was chartered).
May 13-15, 2016 Quidditch/Blacksmithing Campout – Camp Bromelsick
Will Gryffindor win again? Most popular Troop 55 Campout. Quidditch training in the morning, tournament in afternoon. Blacksmithing all day! We will have the portable forge, anvils, and equipment all set up. First years learn metallurgy and make their first flint and steel striker.

Troop 55 is running the 2 liter water bottle rocket launch for the Welcome to Webelos Campout at Camp Bromelsick. 9-11am and 1-4pm. Contact Mr. Burdick if interested in helping.

Sat. drive to Devils Den, set up camp, see visitor’s center. Sun. Chaplains Aide service, a.m. hike, lunch, p.m. hike. Mon. hike out and camp on trail overnight. 10 miles + hiking on both days. Tues, return to Lawrence.

November 13-15, 2015 Fort Leavenworth Campout
This will be a hiking tour of Fort Leavenworth. We will be camping at the Girl Scout Camp on base, touring the base, museums, and eat in the commissary with the soldiers for lunch. Adults and Scouts over 18 get your drivers license and car insurance info. to the Honchos as soon as possible.
Pelathe District Fall Camporee 2015 October 23rd – 25th at Blackjack Battlefield Baldwin City, KS
Fellow Scouts and Leaders: The Battle of Blackjack Fall Camporee Re-enactment campout 2015 is scheduled for October 23rd -25th and will be held at the Blackjack Battlefield just east of Baldwin City, KS. The event will be “The Blackjack Re-enactment”! Scouts will learn about John Brown, Henry Pate, and what led up to the first skirmish in the Civil War. Then the scouts will get to participate in a re-enactment on the actual battlegrounds.
Check-in will be on Friday night from 4-8pm and we will have a campfire program on Saturday night along with a flag retirement ceremony. What could be more fitting than a flag retirement ceremony on battlegrounds which led to the Civil War! So bring your best skits for the campfire program! Parents are more than welcome to come out on Saturday to watch the re-enactment!

(beginner and advanced muzzleloading, learn history and heritage of the mountain men, Sat. night meal included, all for $35) Gas expense is paid for out of the Kanwaka cleaning fund so Quartermaster fees are the only other cost) You must register and pay by the August 10th meeting for Muzzleloaders with Mr. Tharp the head honcho for this campout.

June 12 – 14, 2015, Family Campout, at Clinton Lake, Bloomington East Campground, Campsite Elm. Scouts campout Friday through Sunday. Parents and family arrive after noon on Saturday and Campout to Sunday. Group dinner and breakfast.
May 1 – 3, 2015, Camp Bromelsick, Welcome to Webelos Camp-out. Troop 55 is sponsoring this year! We will have the Rock Wall, BB Guns, Archery, Slingshots, Tomahawks, and Primitive cooking for the Webelos to do. Each patrol will be assigned and activity area to run. Arrive at Cabin 5:30pm on Friday. We set up for the Webelos Friday Night and Saturday Morning. Webelos arrive 9am Saturday. See Webelos site for Agenda.
